LIGHT: Form and Order

The goal of this project was to design three non-denominational chapel's and find a spot to place them on the Farmingdale State College campus. Not only did we have to make sure these chapels were non-denominational, but we needed to design them using inspiration from architects who have toyed with the idea of controlling light.

Le Corbusier

Le Corbusier was a Swiss architect and urban planner who was said to be internationally influential. He looked to merge the idea of functionalism with "modern movement". Some of his projects were the Convent of La Tourette, the Palace of Assembly, and the Notre-dame du Haut.

Le Corbusier expressed the concept of controlling light utilizing different techniques such as light cannons, light guns, light rays etc. In some his buildings he allowed light to enter through stained glass, curved edges, and even cannons. The following are images of Corbusier's projects that inspired the creation of this one.
